Weekend

Puglia from north to south.
  • First day: Trani and Castel del Monte

Our itinerary starts in Trani: we will walk around the elegant port of the city until we reach the "Queen of the Cathedrals of Puglia". The afternoon will be entirely dedicated to Castel del Monte. This UNESCO Site boasts an octagonal fortress-like castle built by Holy Roman Emperor Frederick II.

  • Second day: Bari and Polignano a Mare

The second day of our itinerary starts in Bari. The capital of Puglia has recently revitalized itself, launching a lively and dynamic tourist experience. We will wind through the quaint alleys that lead to the ancient Basilica of San Nicola and the characteristic "orecchiette road". Afterwards, we will continue to Polignano a Mare, known as The Pearl of the Adriatic. Perched dramatically on towering cliffs, it is famous for its splendid terraces overlooking the sea and for having given birth to Domenico Modugno (Mr. Volare).

  • Third day: Salento

We will wrap up our tour with a visit to Lecce, the capital of the Apulian Baroque style. Naturally, we will admire its splendid palaces and monumental churches, but also its other claim to fame: the ancient art of papier mâché. In medieval times, papier mâché artisans created gorgeous replicas of marble statues for various reasons which we will explain. In the afternoon, we will discover Otranto, the easternmost city in Italy. This quintessential medieval city overlooks the Adriatic Sea and its Cathedral houses the most splendid mosaic floor, among the largest in Europe.
